St. Joseph was declared the Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX on December 8th, 1870. The Catholic Church has provided so many wonderful prayers in honor of St. Joseph. It was then decided to create a chaplet using those prayers dedicated to the Foster Father of Jesus.
The opening prayer - The Prayer to St. Joseph for Protection - dated back to the first century. It is promised that whoever shall read this prayer or take with them, shall never die a sudden death or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, or shall be burned in any fire or shall be empowered in battle.
